The North Star project is a part of the Della Keats/U-DOC Program. The North Star project is a program of the Imaginarium which seeks to increase the number of Alaskan students that pursue health sciences in college and in their careers. To do that, it will work with participants in the Della Keats/U-DOC Program at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
- Della Keats/U-DOC students use digital cameras to document their experiences over the summer and to develop their research projects. The North Star project provides a website (www.northstarak.org), blog, and forum through which students will maintain contact with UAA and Imaginarium staff and with each other. North Star gives students opportunities and knowledge with which to share their experiences with people across Alaska.
- North Star is a partnership between the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Anchorage Museum – Imaginarium Discovery Center. The program is supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health’s Science Education Partnership Awards. North Star is a significant financial sponsor of the Della Keats/U-DOC and NIDDK Programs at UAA.

NOTE: Current high school juniors who wish to be considered for the Della Keats/U-DOC Program must identify an appropriate mentor in their home school or community who is willing and able to assist them with their North Star project during the 2008-09 academic year. A Mentor Form, to be completed by the mentor, must accompany any junior's application for that application to be considered.
